Are you like me ? Deeply in love with owls
(and not only because it’s trendy and you see them everywhere these days) !)
Problem is, when you have kids, there are things you can knit, and things that you have less opportunities to create
(unless you’re very surrounded by people with kids and then in some ways it’s also depressing, right?)
So when a friend of mine told me she needed a gift for a pregnant friend of her, I caught the chance and begged her to let me create something. YESSSSSSS, I’ll finally get to knit something for a baby ! 🙂
how nice ?
(and you have to know, in French, the word for “owl” is CHOUETTE…
that same “chouette” can also mean “nice”, or “neat” 🙂
so yes, C’est Chouette !
So, what did I need ?
An embroidery frame, middle size,
4 skeins of Rico Design – CREATIVE COTTON
(100% cotton – needles or crochet 4/5mm)
I picked white/cream, light yellow, light pink and a brighter pink for this project.
As you’ve guessed, it will be given to a baby girl ! 🙂
and of course, my pink crochet (size 4mm)
From there, I’ve crocheted all over the frame, creating stripes
(not using the white, that I’ve saved to attach all the elements together later on)
Once that was done, I had to start crochet the owl !
I didn’t want things to be too complicated, so I’ve started with small little eyes.
(2 each !) 🙂
Then, I crochet small rectangles, added the eyes
Sewing a little orange beak to each owl, black dots for their eyes, and now getting
add a bit of cotton filling inside to give some volume
and sew each side of them, frowning a little bit the down side 🙂
I’ve got the feeling somebody’s watching me… 😀
But they needed wings !
So I crochet 3 stitches on the first raw, and then only 2 stitches on the second, to have something looking a bit like a triangle, and here we go, an owl with wings ! 🙂
They look a bit twisted and ankward, they are far from being perfect but you know what ?
Just like me ! 🙂
Once this was done, I had to attach each owl with a crocheted string, to the frame
and then create 3 other strings to allow the mobile to be hang somewhere.
and that’s it ! 🙂
(turns out, the pregnant friend of my friend was very happy to receive such a gift for her baby girl !)
I promise though, that next time, I’ll take better photos than this ones 🙂
Do you have any owl pattern to share with us ?
